Still Waters Home
A new statistic has identified 467 homeless schoolchildren in Charlotte County. Of this number, 100 are truly homeless, meaning that they are living in such places as abandoned cars, tents, vacant houses and the woods, according to the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition.
Still Waters Home is a rescue operation under the auspices of Restoration Roads Ministry,Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency in Charlotte County. Restoration Roads works in close collaboration with the Homeless Coalition, Children's Home Society and the Charlotte County Public School's Homeless Youth and Family Liaison program.
Still Waters Home will provide 12 to 16 of these homeless school children with stable housing and, whenever appropriate, promote family reunification. It will help young people successfully navigate the road to mental and emotional wellness while providing a safe haven from the consequences of homelessness.
Still Waters Home will be occupied homeless youth between the ages of 14 and 18, who have annual incomes that meet the definition of extremely low income households as established in the Charlotte County HHR Plan and corresponding local, state, and federal housing definitions, as amended from time to time. The eligible youth will be screened by the Charlotte County School System.
